Brutal 1000 RR 2020, 208 hp of naked power


Like the Brutale 1000 Serie Oro, the 1000 RR engine is the latest evolution of the four-cylinder MV Agusta. Compared to the past it has undergone a vast redesign, so as to achieve very respectable figures: 208 hp maximum power at 13.450 rpm and 116.5 Nm at 11,000 rpm.

Distribution is by radial valves and the central distribution chain, technical choices inspired by the technology of Formula 1 and MotoGP. In particular, the combustion chamber is derived from F1; the titanium connecting rods, typical in MotoGP, contribute to contain the masses, loads and overall inertia of the engine. The same derivation from the maximum motorcycle championship for the central distribution chain, made able to mitigate the effects of camshaft torsion at high rpm. Also new are the valve guides and the camshafts, characterized by new lift and timing in the intake and exhaust. Pistons use low friction Ace segments; new crankshaft, balanced to limit absorption at high rpm.

From the direct experience of MV Agusta in competitions for standard derivatives comes the new lubrication system with "splitter", which allows to separate the oil from the moving mechanical parts. Even the transmission has been revised with the use of gears that in addition to friction reduce the overall noise. This is the result of the phonic wheel and clutch covers, which partially absorb the noise.

The airbox redesign was followed by the definition of a new intake system: the horns have different lengths to maximize engine performance, power and torque. The current structure has double injectors: four lower Mikuni and four upper Magneti Marelli in the shower, with increased capacity and arrangement above the intake cone. The Arrow exhaust system uses the 4-1-4 diagram, with a throttle valve.

Even the electronic engine management has been evolved, thanks to the collaboration with Eldor, which has created a new EM2.0 control unit precisely for this four-cylinder engine. There is a full ride by wire multimap (Sport, Race, Rain, Custom) and the IMU inertial platform, which manages traction control (adjustable to 8 levels and can be switched off) and modulates the intervention based on the angle data of fold provided by the IMU. The Front Lift Control, an evolution of the anti-wheelie, can be deactivated. For departures, the launch control is available, which intervenes both on the engine revs and on the torque depending on the speed during the start. Then we find the EAS 2.1 Up & Down electronic gearbox, active both uphill and downhill.
