The province of Overijssel removes signs for national cycling routes, ANWB is angry

This week, the province of Overijssel has removed part of the green route signs from the national cycle route network. According to the ANWB, well-known national cycling routes can no longer be cycled.

The ANWB wants the province to replace the signs as soon as possible, especially now that the Netherlands is under the spell of the corona virus. “It is a time when cycling peaks enormously”, a spokesman told RTV Oost.

According to the province, it has been known for years that Overijssel would stop maintaining the routes. “Article link

The platform’s strategy seems to be more focused on preserving the existing number of bicycle kilometers than on modernizing an outdated system.”

The ANWB does not understand this reaction very well and says that the bicycle route network still works well. “We would like to talk to the province and look for a solution.”

The ANWB, together with the Fietsersbond and the Cycling Association NTFU, form the Landelijk Fietsplatform Foundation. This foundation manages almost 4000 kilometers of cycling routes throughout the Netherlands, recognizable by the green signs.
