Six officers suspended for role in storming Capitol

Six United States Capitol Police (USCP) agents in Washington DC have been suspended with pay pending an investigation into their role in the storming of the building in early January. Article link

The actions of 29 other agents are also being investigated, although they have not been suspended. International news agencies report this on Friday. Details about the investigation or role of the investigated agents have not been disclosed. Five people were killed in the assault, including one Capitol agent.

The US Public Prosecutor’s Office also filed charges against two more members of the so-called Oath Keepers on Friday. This far-right anti-government militia consists of former and current soldiers. Article link

The two suspects in question, a 60-year-old woman and her 70-year-old husband, are suspected of, among other things, conspiracy, obstructing official proceedings and destroying government property. Earlier, the US Public Prosecutor already filed charges against several members of the Oath Keepers in relation to the storm, including the alleged leader Thomas Edward Caldwell.

The rioting Trump supporters wanted through the protest and later the storming to prevent then-President Donald Trump from having to hand over power to his Democratic successor Joe Biden. He is said to have “stolen” his election, but no evidence of fraud has been found.
