The nano-satellite was characterized, developed, assembled and tested within the Nano-satellite center on campus, in collaboration between the faculties of engineering and exact sciences at the Whistling Nuclear Research Center.

“This is a university holiday,” says Prof. Colin Price, head of the Porter Department of Environmental Studies. “We are part of the ‘new civilian space’ revolution, compared to the ‘old space’ where only large companies with huge budgets and large teams of engineers could build satellites. A few years ago we set up the small satellite building center at the university, and I was happy to prove “Of many technologies, it is possible to build small satellites and within two years launch them into space at significantly lower budgets than was the case in the old space.”

“This is a nano-satellite, or a tiny satellite, of the ‘cube satellite’ type,” adds Dr. Ofer Amrani, head of the Miniature Satellite Laboratory at Tel Aviv University. , And weighs less than 2.5 kg. TAU-SAT1 is the first nano-satellite to be designed, built and tested independently in academia. “
