Continues the initiative to share your information with Facebook

WhatsApp continues its initiative to share some of its user data with parent company Facebook. In a post she published last night (Thursday), she explains that this is a problem of understanding her message and that she now wants to “reflect” the issue more clearly. “We could have explained the battle change better,” the post read. Indeed, the content of the things it initially published led to the conclusion that user data would be shared wholesale with Facebook.

But this is not the case, WhatsApp claims. In fact not much will change. And almost all users have already agreed to share their data with Facebook. Article link https://www.news1.news/news/2021/02/continues-the-initiative-to-share-your-information-with-facebook.html

The company plans to show users a banner in the app that will explain this. This is part of a move designed to encourage users to read the agreement and understand what will actually change and what will not, or already exists. The company will also present an update to users as soon as the change takes effect, starting on May 15.

WhatsApp says the information it shares with Facebook does not include messages, group content or call logs. Article link https://www.news1.news/news/2021/02/continues-the-initiative-to-share-your-information-with-facebook.html

The change is designed to allow users to communicate with businesses within WhatsApp for businesses. Article link https://www.news1.news/news/2021/02/continues-the-initiative-to-share-your-information-with-facebook.html

The commercial chat service that WhatsApp sells to businesses to allow them to keep in touch with customers and even offer them purchases. A pilot of such a service has been running for about a year in India and has proven itself enough for Amazon to feel threatened there.

So what does WhatsApp actually share? It currently transmits your IP address, information about your device as well as purchases you made through it. But this information is not passed on in Europe and the UK where residents enjoy the protection of particularly draconian privacy laws. However, privacy experts explained to the BBC that the public concern shows how much users are unaware of the extent of their data shared between WhatsApp and Facebook, but also with Google, Microsoft and Apple.

But this panic has also led to a sharp jump in competitors’ users – Signal and Telegram. But WhatsApp mentions that although the first is encrypted, the second is less and its encryption is not enabled by default as with WhatsApp say. It should be noted that there is a basis for this argument, Telegram has indeed gained the status of an encrypted application even though in practice it does not provide it to those who did not activate the setting in advance. Telegram is also a private company, with headquarters operating out of Dubai and an agreement with the Kremlin that allows the Russian government to receive information from the company. A signal on the other hand, WhatsApp explains, may not receive information, but it also provides an inferior user experience as a result. With the latter argument one can argue and even quite easily.

Another WhatsApp argument that tries to explain the information sharing move is to keep the app free. According to her, businesses pay for the right to use it and this is one of the ways that allows its use to be left free for other users. The tone of the WhatsApp message sounds appeasing and apologetic – we did not explain ourselves correctly and now we want to clarify our intention – this is implied from the things. But in the end it is a move that does not reflect well to the average user what is happening with his information.
