The Spider of Lecco Matteo Bernasconi dies overwhelmed by an avalanche


Update at 10.00 13/05/2020: Matteo Bernasconi’s body was recovered this morning with the helicopter of the AREU helicopter (Lombardy Emergency Regional Emergency Company), which took off from the Caiolo (SO) base. Cnsas – VII Delegazione Valtellina Valchiavenna, Sondrio Station, engaged in the intervention, taken yesterday evening, with technicians and UCVs (avalanche dog units) and with the Sagf – Alpine Rescue Financial Guard.

The mountain world mourns the disappearance of the Lecco spider today Matteo Bernasconi, overwhelmed by an avalanche in Valtellina. Her body was found last night.

Originally from Como, born in 1982, the Bern, as he was called by friends and by all fans of the mountaineering world, he had become a member of the Red Sweaters in 2003, even before becoming an Aspiring Mountain Guide in 2009 and an Alpine Guide in 2011.

According to the first reconstructions, Matteo was overwhelmed by one Avalanche in the Canale della Malgina, in Valtellina, on Tuesday 12 May. In the evening, searches began, which lasted until 2 am when the body was spotted. In the next few hours we will proceed to recovery, slowed down by bad weather.
