Mojang, the Swedish studio behind Minecraft, changes its name and logo in view of the new generation of consoles. Mojang becomes Mojang Studios and will include multiple development studios engaged in films, live shows, Minecraft updates and other intellectual property.
These studies will not only be located in Sweden, but also in the rest of the world. It is not the first time that a studio belonging to Xbox Game Studios is divided into multiple teams or even in more software houses posted under the same name, a striking example are Rare and Playground games, authors of Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon.
All this will allow first of all to try to develop something different from Minecraft and secondly to try to explore other media such as cinema or television. Among many things, we remind you that the Minecraft film has already been announced and should arrive in the next few years.
It will hit the market on May 26th Minecraft Dungeons, an Action-RPG belonging to the same universe of Minecraft. It will be a product accessible to all that tries to face a different style of play. We had the opportunity to try it in preview and talk about it in a dedicated article.
Mojang is therefore no longer a mere study, but an agglomeration of multiple software houses, that from today onwards will move together under a single flag called Mojang Studios. It is unclear whether they will continue to develop cross-platform games like in the case of Minecraft or there will be the opportunity for some Xbox exclusives with any new intellectual properties. We are likely to know more during the Xbox 20/20 event in July, when the new projects of Microsoft’s first party teams will be announced.
Let us know what you think of this rebranding and the positive effects it could bring to the entire Xbox and gaming division.
