Coronavirus, The State of the Union: the online conference – Europe starts

In just a few weeks, Covid-19 has changed the lives of billions of people across the planet: healthcare systems are in trouble, lockdown measures are having an unprecedented impact on the social life and economy of all affected countries and the world wonders what this emergency means. Therefore, the annual conference ‘The State of the Union’ could not be centered on a different topic, which today will gather experts from all over the world to discuss what will change during and after the passage of the new coronavirus.

This year the now recognized Florentine appointment, organized by the European University Institute, will be virtual. Three live online sessions will take place throughout the day. Politicians, scholars and experts will discuss how Europe and international institutions are managing the crisis generated by the spread of the virus, and what its impact will be on health policies, the economy, and global cooperation.

Among the interventions are scheduled that of Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, of the President of the European Central Bank Christine Lagarde, of the President of the European Council Charles Michel, the executive director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva, the European commissioner Paolo Gentiloni and many others. The morning session will begin at 10:00 and will be inaugurated by the president of the European Institute (EUI) Renaud Dehousse, with greetings from the mayor of Florence Dario Nardella, the governor of Tuscany Enrico Rossi and the foreign minister Luigi Di Maio. A day of debates will follow with the concluding speech entrusted to Giuseppe Conte.
