With the help of his family he has rented a house, and it is here that he welcomes the strays, “who in the winter in these parts often die from the cold and do not receive public aid,” he said. It is for these reasons that my project was born ». He goes to the refuge, which is 30 kilometers away from his home, every day. Sometimes hitchhiking, sometimes cycling, and he wants the animals here to feel at home. Eduardo’s goal is for dogs and cats to live in temporary shelters, waiting to be adopted by a family. “One of the most difficult challenges is deciding who to take to the refuge and who to leave on the street – he continues – because the house is unfortunately not large enough to accommodate everyone”.
But for the future he wants to grow larger and save and repair even older and stray animals from the cold. He has already found sponsors who are helping him with the expenses, and has launched one fundraising campaign to support its structure. The money will be used for the purchase of water and food, for rent and for veterinary expenses. To date, 14,390 reals have been collected which correspond to almost 2300 euros.
This is not his first beneficial action: at 15 he was elected as one of the 50 youngest people who are inspired by the UN. On that occasion he had devised a project to reuse rainwater for an ecovillage. At 15, he took care of finding a home for the stray cats of his city, and last Christmas he gave gifts to 52 elderly people who live in some Brazilian rest homes. His Instagram profile is «Megaedu1» and he uses social networks to speak above all about the environment, human and animal rights, the issues that are most dear to him.
