According to Tom Dumoulin, the mountain trip to Méribel, where the line was on the Col de la Loze, went very well for Jumbo-Visma. “Perfect actually. Primož takes a little time on Pogačar, we had everything under control. Only in the end… that climb is very fair, isn’t it? ”
Dumoulin was enthusiastic about the Col de la Loze, which was climbed for the first time in the Tour de France. “It’s a special thing, but it is. I love this. I may not be in top form at the moment and maybe for my weight this is an arrival that will always take me time instead of time, even when I am in top shape. But I think this is fantastic. And we are doing a good thing, a beautiful day actually ”, he told the WE.
For a long time Bahrain-McLaren was in control of the peloton, while Dumoulin was in the wheel with his team. The Bahraini team did a lot of work for leader Mikel Landa, who seemed to set his sights on the podium. “That was fine for us. We did not have to recall the escape, because we did not mind if the bonuses were gone. So we weren’t going to drive for it and in the end Bahrain did. ”
‘It’s not like in the beginning’
Ultimately, Miguel Ángel López took the stage victory and Dumoulin’s leader Primož Roglič ended up on Tadej Pogacar. Yet that was not announced all day, the Dutchman said. “It’s not like a few times in the beginning. Then he said ‘I feel so good, I just want to ride for the win today’. He did not indicate that today. But he just stayed focused and in the end you see that he is one of the best. ”
Roglič managed to extend his lead to 57 seconds in the standings. Dumoulin: “If we could take the time today, we would be happy. So we are. But 57 seconds is not enough to be sure, also with tomorrow’s stage. So it’s okay. ”
