The competency test competition, in the RSX Olympic windsurfing model, ended today (Saturday). Beijing 2008 Olympic medalist Shahar Zubari came first on the podium, ahead of Yoav Cohen and Yoav Omer.
Accumulated during the three days of the competition accumulated 17 negative points, one less incumbent and three less than Omar. Following the heat that has prevailed in recent days, the competition held in Haifa from Thursday to Saturday also served as a preparation for conditions in Tokyo. An extensive professional team conducted tests and a model in terms of dealing with heat, just as was also done at the Olympic site before the corona.
In the coming week, the team will move to training on the iqfoil surfboard and will travel to Switzerland to participate in the first European Championship in the model at the end of the month. Only last week, approval was received that will allow the Israeli delegation to enter the competition.
Team coach Gur Steinberg said: “The team maintains a high level of fitness for Tokyo by competing internally with the current Olympic model RSX. This is how we enable the progress and investment towards the move to iqfoil which will serve as the Olympic surfboard in Paris 2024.”
