Young Ajax loses practice game and fears for Salah-Eddine

Jong Ajax has lost the first exhibition match of the preparation for the new season at Almere City. In the Yanmar Stadium it was 2-0 for the club from Flevoland. Both goals fell before half time. In the final phase, Anass Salah-Eddine dropped out with an injury.

Trainer Mitchell van der Gaag had to do it in the match with Almere City without flavors Naci Ünüvar and Brian Brobbey. The former suffers from his groin, while Brobbey is in home isolation pending a test for the coronavirus. Thus, in the starting line-up there was room for Youri Regeer as a striker, while newcomer Giovanni was allowed to start as left winger.

The first chance of the game was for Jong Ajax. Right Winger Sontje Hansen shot just wide of the post. The young Amsterdammers were the most threatening, while Almere City was lurking on counters. The Almerders took the lead after more than twenty minutes through a counter. Just before that, the home team was close to a lead, but the bar was hit twice in a row.

With the exception of a few pinpricks, Jong Ajax did not really come close to the equalizer. Just before half-time, Almere City even managed to increase the margin to two. After sloppy ball loss, Jelle Goselink managed to take advantage on behalf of the home team.

At half-time, trainer Van der Gaag made several changes and the trainer continued to switch during the second half. Thus, all players got their playing minutes, although the question is whether it benefited the game. Almere City came out of the dressing room better, so goalkeeper Calvin Raatsie had to make quite a few saves.

On the other hand, Ajax substitute Jaymillio Pinas had a good chance. After a good pass from the defense, the attacker took the ball well, but missed sharpness in the rounding. When the match seemed to be played, the biggest downer for Jong Ajax followed. Salah-Eddine had to be carried off the field by stretcher in the closing stages of the game. The left-footed defender cried out in pain, although it remains to be seen how serious the injury is.

In the last minutes Pinas got another opportunity, while on the other side substitute Enric Llansana took the ball off the line, preventing the 3-0. Moments later, Raatsie also prevented worse by preventing a third goal with a handsome save.
