Flemish too heat action plan takes effect. The Agency for Care and Health warns municipalities, residential care centers, home care services and childcare centers to protect themselves from the sun. People are asked to stay alert, so drink plenty of fluids, seek coolness and avoid strenuous exercise in the heat of the day. This applies to everyone, but especially to the elderly and children. “They sometimes still have insufficient drinking reflexes.”

Joris Moonens of Care and Health warns that those who do not pay attention could suffer from shortness of breath and, if it lasts longer, even a heat stroke. Covid patients also deserve extra attention, because they are more vulnerable to the heat, especially those who are still recovering from the virus. Those who are sensitive to heat stress themselves are also more likely to deal with it corona to get infected. “It also works the other way around: if you expose your body to heat for too long, you can become dehydrated and weakened, making you more susceptible to diseases like Covid-19.”

Moonens emphasizes to continue to monitor the corona measures.
