Deputy Minister MK Yitzhak Cohen (Shas) today (Wednesday) in the Knesset plenum attacked MK Alex Kushnir, from Yisrael Beiteinu on the basis of his origin. In his remarks, he claimed that he “came from the culture that educated you to anti-Semitism.”

“I will teach you something – you are still a new immigrant, you are still with a heavy Russian accent, you still come from the culture that educated you to anti-Semitism,” he said. “Calm down, you are already in the Land of Israel. You served in the IDF, I was CEO – disconnect from the source where you came from. Do not give antisemitic speeches, get rid of it.”

Cohen’s remarks were received with great anger among Knesset members of Yisrael Beiteinu, who shouted at him “shame” and left the plenum in protest – not before Cohen said that “the ultra-Orthodox did nothing to you, thanks to them you live at all.”

Later, MK Bezalel Smutrich responded to Cohen’s remarks and condemned the statement. “This in the face of MK Kushnir, I think things are inappropriate.”
