VI: Groningen wants to surprise on the transfer market and goes for Zivkovic return

Richairo Zivkovic may face a return to the Netherlands. FC Groningen wants to take over the striker on a rental basis from the Chinese Changchun Yatai. Zivkovic played on a rental basis for Sheffield United last season.

In England he did not come out well, but according to Football International Groningen wants to offer Zivkovic a chance in the Eredivisie. A permanent transfer is not possible for Groningen, which does not have the financial means to take over Zivkovic from Changchun Yatai. The Pride of the North is therefore hoping for a rental deal.

It seems like a fairly complicated deal, but if Groningen succeeds, it will bring back the youngest debutant in club history. The striker first came into action for the club on December 2, 2012 during the home game against Heracles Almelo. He was sixteen years and 88 days old at the time.

Due to the departure of Kaj Sierhuis to Stade Reims, Groningen does not have a real striker under contract. Technical director Mark-Jan Fledderus previously announced that he was looking for a ‘rare striker’.

Zivkovic left for Ajax after his breakthrough at Groningen, but he did not succeed there. After adventures at Willem II, FC Utrecht and KV Oostende, he eventually ended up at the Chinese Changchun Yatai.
