Verstappen after qualifying: “Happy for Hülkenberg, should have been in F1 already”

Max Verstappen was a tenth short during qualifying at Silverstone to qualify for Nico Hülkenberg. As a result, the German will start from third position tomorrow, while Verstappen may start from fourth position. Afterwards he indicated that he is above all very happy for Hülkenberg.

Verstappen clocked a lap time of 1: 26.176 in the last run of Q3 and with this he was a tenth slower than Hülkenberg, who managed to settle in third. Afterwards the temporary Racing Point driver indicated that he was “surprised” with his high starting position. Verstappen likes it, he says. “First of all, I am very happy for Hülkenberg. He should have been here all year long”, the driver from Hasselt says to Sky Sports. “I hope he can find a seat in Formula 1 for next year.”

In terms of his own expectations, Verstappen hopes to benefit from his alternative tire choice tomorrow. Unlike the rest, Verstappen starts on the hard tire on Sunday. “I hope I have a good start on the hard tire. This weekend’s hard tire is last week’s medium tire, so I don’t expect it to go very bad”, De Limburger explains. “The first stint will probably go better, but of course it depends on whether there are Safety Cars. But it’s a good start.”

Verstappen does not expect that he will have problems with the people around him at the start, who will all start on a softer compound. It is important for Verstappen to stay out of the crowd. “We have to make sure we have a good start and I don’t expect too many problems with the cars around me,” said the Dutchman.
