The Tour of Wallonia starts on Sunday in Soignies. Greg Van Avermaet is happy to be at the start again after 7 years of the round he already won in 2011 and 2013: “I hope to add some good memories.”

Greg Van Avermaet starts with ambition in the Tour of Wallonia. The CCC leader won the 2011 and 2013 editions and wants to come out well again after a 7-year absence.

“I am very happy to be at the start of the Tour of Wallonia again”, he said by his team. “It has been a long time since I have raced here again, but I have good memories here.”

“It is always nice to race on home soil, especially for a stage race, because I don’t often get that opportunity during a ‘normal’ season.”

Van Avermaet has already taken the overall victory in Wallonia twice, in 2011 and 2013.

Hunt for victories and train for the Tour

Van Avermaet has already won the final classification twice and has already won five stage victories in the Tour of Wallonia. Since then he has always raced the Tour, but with the new calendar he is back there.

“I hope to add some nice memories again”, says Van Avermaet. “We start here with a strong team, but at the same time I realize that the field of participants is also strong, as has been the case in all games since the restart of the season.”

“I would like to put in a good result and of course, it goes without saying that the race kilometers that I am accumulating here will come in handy in the Tour de France.”
