The number of claims for unemployment benefits in the United States fell below a million last week for the first time since mid-March. The number of applications was 963,000, the US Department of Labor reports Thursday in its weekly overview.
This also means a decrease of 228,000 applications compared to a week earlier. In the run-up to the new figures from the ministry, a number of 1.1 million applications was taken into account.
The number of Americans receiving unemployment benefits from their state of residence fell from 16.1 million to 15.5 million.
