Manchester United only got rid of FC Copenhagen after extra time: 1-0. The tough Danes fought for what they were worth and had a star in keeper Kalle Johnsson (ex-NEC), but had to bow their heads after one hundred and twenty minutes for the great power from England.

The opening phase in Cologne, where the game was finished due to the prevailing corona crisis, was surprising enough for Copenhagen. The Danes showed no respect for Manchester United and occasionally forced the English superpower into reverse. That actually resulted in two nice chances, but Mohammed Daramy killed them both.

After a nervous first twenty minutes, The Mancunians got into the game a lot better. Twice the British superpower thought it would be able to take the lead before half-time, but the VAR put a stop to it both times. First, after a long study, a penalty was not awarded and a goal by Mason Greenwood was rejected for offside.

The tough Copenhagen thus held its ground and in the second half they were able to keep United away from Kalle Johnsson’s goal for a long time. Because a goal by Marcus Rashford was also canceled after offside, the Danes started to believe in it, especially when there were still twenty minutes on the clock and Bryan Oviedo missed an enormous opportunity after a wonderful action by Rasmus Falk.

In an up and down wavy final phase, both teams had chances of winning. Copenhagen goalkeeper Johnsson in particular proved to be an excellent closing post and prevented a certain goal against three times, but former AZ goalkeeper Sergio Romero also saw a number of dangerous situations in his penalty area. Because both gentlemen did their job well, there was no goal within ninety minutes.

There had to be an extension and United finally made the difference. Anthony Martial missed another huge opportunity, but then provoked a foul in the penalty area. The penalty awarded was used impressively by Bruno Fernandes and thus beat Johnsson, who, despite thirteen (!) Saves, could not help his team at that time. In the semi-finals, The Red Devils play against Wolves of Sevilla.
