The search with three lifeboats and multiple vehicles of the Royal Dutch Rescue Company (KNRM) and the rescue brigade in the sea and on land has been discontinued on Saturday morning, the Coast Guard reports.
The teen got in trouble with two friends around 8:50 PM last night. After a passerby raised the alarm, two of them were taken out of the water. Multiple lifeboats and helicopters were deployed. In the surf, bathers also formed a human chain to find the teenager.
The Sand Motor is a large artificial sandbank off the coast of South Holland, which was constructed by Rijkswaterstaat to eventually make the beach wider and promote dune growth.
