This construction allows TUI to strengthen its cash position: BOC pays 226 million euros for the five MAXs (over 45 million euros per aircraft). While convenient in this difficult time, it is part of a previously announced strategy to reduce capital costs.

The five MAXs have not yet been delivered by Boeing: this is expected to happen in the first half of next year, provided that the flight ban has been lifted. It now appears that the MAX is considered safe enough in the fall to return to commercial service.
