AMSTERDAM – Corona infections were detected at three catering establishments in Amsterdam this week. The GGD and the Safety Region are ‘very concerned’ about these recent infections.

Cafe In the City at the Klein Gartmanplantsoen came into the picture during contact research and is viewed by the GGD as a cluster. A cluster means that three or more infected persons can be traced back to the location.

The infections were identified during the source and contact research that the GGD is conducting. This catering facility involves a cluster of ten people. In the City today, at the request of the chairman of the Security Region, Mayor Halsema, decided to voluntarily close the doors for two weeks.

Marie Heinekenplein

According to the GGD, No Rules on Marie Heinekenplein is also a cluster of infections that was identified during a source and contact investigation. Here it concerns four infected persons who can currently be traced to the bar area of this location. No Rules consists of a bar and a restaurant. The owner of No Rules has voluntarily closed the bar area for two weeks from today.

The third case is café Zwart op de Dam, where a staff member worked for a number of days while this person had complaints himself. This person has tested positive for the coronavirus. The GGD has now started a source and contact investigation. As of tomorrow, the interior of the cafe will be closed and only the terrace will be open.

To be mentioned by name

In consultation with the GGD, Halsema has decided to name the three cases by name, so that visitors who have just been there have been informed. Everyone with complaints is urgently advised to get tested.

AT5 filmed at the No Rules premises during the opening of the terraces on June 1. The owner then said that the restaurant was closed for 2.5 months this year because of a renovation and then had to close again immediately because of the corona crisis. “I think there will be a very exciting period now. You will open today, which is of course very positive. But it is still not as it has been.”
