In quite hot conditions, the third practice session started at Silverstone. Sebastian Vettel was the first to show himself on the track. The German does not have a happy weekend yet again and immediately wanted to test whether everything was in order with his car. However, the first time was clocked by Lando Norris of McLaren. The Briton recorded a 1: 29.236 on the red band. His teammate, Carlos Sainz, was the second driver on the track to complete a full lap. The Spaniard recorded a 1: 29.661 and was four tenths slower than his colleague. Vettel then settled between the two McLaren’s, with a lap time of 1: 29.376. Sainz and Vettel did this on the yellow belt by the way.
Verstappen was the last of all drivers on the track. He did this about 25 minutes after the starting shot for the third free practice was given. In his first timed lap he recorded a 1: 27.702, which was good for third place at the time, just two tenths behind Valtteri Bottas. Verstappen and Bottas both drove their time on the soft red tire. However, Red Bull soon called its driver back in, while the other drivers just continued to improve their times. Bottas managed to further improve the fastest time to 1: 26.784 and with this he was four tenths faster than the surprising number two of that moment, Lando Norris.

In the final phase, Hamilton sat down for a while and took the fastest time on a new red tire with 1: 26.621, more than a tenth faster than his teammate had previously set. At that time, Verstappen was also back on track, also on the red belt. Just as he was on a very fast lap with a purple sector 1, he was hindered by Lance Stroll. Verstappen reacted furiously about the on-board radio: F * ck! F * ck! F * ck! How can you be so blind ?! “A really fast one was therefore no longer possible for the Dutchman. Alexander Albon did not succeed either, because the British-Thai driver was stuck in eighth time with a 1: 27.474.

The third free practice was thus concluded with again two Mercedes at the top of the times list. Hamilton was the fastest with his lap of 1: 26.621, followed by Bottas, who was more than a tenth slower. Norris drove himself nicely to the third fastest time, half a second behind. Verstappen got stuck in seventh fastest time due to the blockade of Stoll, eight tenths behind Hamilton.
