A month before the restart of the World Cup, our compatriot Thierry Neuville (32) won a rally in Italy. With his Hyundai he drove faster than his team mate and world champion Ott Tänak.
The rally world championship will resume in Estonia on 4 September. To prepare, Thierry Neuville took part in the Alba rally in Italy this weekend.
The racing driver from East Belgium impressed. Together with his driver Nicolas Gilsoul, he won 8 of the 9 stages.
World champion Ott Tänak came in 2nd, 22 seconds behind teammate Neuville. The 3rd place was also for a Hyunda rider. Frenchman Pierre-Louis Loubet finished in 55 seconds.

The World Cup rally was interrupted after 3 motos by the corona pandemic. The competition resumes with the Estonia rally on September 4.
Frenchman Sébastien Ogier (Toyota Yaris) leads the World Cup standings, ahead of Brit Elfyn Evans (Toyota Yaris) and Neuville. He is 20 points behind Ogier.
