Comedy Central has given the green light for a reboot of The Ren & Stimpy Show. The adult animated series was wildly popular in the 1990s and is known for its black and crude humor.
The Ren & Stimpy Show revolves around the psychotic Chihuahua Ren and the not so clever cat Stimpy. The series is characterized by its dark humor. For example, Ren often tries to kill Stimpy in the series and Stimpy thinks a lot about sex.
The creators are delighted with the return of the characters. “I would like to thank our partners at Nick Animation for giving us the opportunity to reshape these iconic characters with a creative team,” said Nina L. Diaz, head of content at Comedy Central’s parent company ViacomCBS.
The reboot is in line with Comedy Central’s aim to revive more (old) adult cartoons. This is also how Beavis & Butthead returns. In addition, just like every year, there is a new season of South Park.
