Corona numbers are still on the rise, but growth clearly continues to slow. The peak of the second wave seems to be over. This is evident from the latest update from Sciensano.

In the week of August 1 to 7, an average of 587.7 people per day contracted the corona virus. That is an increase of 11 percent compared to the previous week (528.3). In total, 74,620 Belgians were infected by the lung virus.

We also notice an ever-slower increase in the number of new hospital admissions. In the past week an average of 28.3 corona patients were admitted to hospital, 15 percent more than last week (24.6). Currently there are 312 people in Belgian hospitals, including 73 in intensive care.

Every day an average of 3.6 Belgians die from the corona virus. That is an increase of 56 percent compared to the week before (2,3). The total death toll now stands at 9,879.
