The number of new hospital admissions is falling again, infections are rising less rapidly

The second wave seems to calm down. The average number of new hospital admissions fell by 7 percent. The number of infections is still rising, but noticeably less rapidly than last week.

Between 27 July and 2 August, an average of 530.9 Belgians per day contracted the corona virus. That is an increase of 49 percent compared to the previous week, but yesterday an average of 535.4 contamination was reported. In total, 71,158 people became infected with the lung virus.

Fewer new hospital admissions, but more occupied beds

The average number of new hospital admissions fell from 25 to 23.3 patients per day. That is a decrease of 7 percent. 293 people are in the hospital, 11 percent more than the week before (263). 61 intensive care patients are treated, 14 more than last week (+ 30%).

The number of deaths from the coronavirus has increased from 2.3 to 3 per day. That is an increase of 31 percent. The total death toll in our country is now 9.85.
