The Knesset plenum today (Wednesday) approved in a preliminary reading MK Zvi Hauser’s bill postponing the deadline for the transfer of the state budget to November. The law was approved by a majority of 56 supporters against 41 opponents.
The Likud, Blue and White and Shas supported the proposal. Some Knesset members of Torah Judaism voted against the law. Shortly before the vote, the party granted Knesset members freedom of vote.

During the debate leading up to the vote, MK Hauser called on members of the Knesset to support the proposal, explaining that “we must recover at the last minute,” he said. Hauser argued that “everyone who has the good of Israel in his face should show national responsibility and vote for it.”

MK Yair Golan presented in the plenum the position against the law, “We were elected to serve the citizens of Israel, should we give the terrible, inflated and wasteful government another extension? what is it good for? Should we lend a hand to such whims that are all of one person only? ”

Prior to the vote, all the bills that appear on the agenda before MK Zvi Hauser’s bill were removed from the agenda, so it went to the polls earlier than planned.

Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi welcomed the approval of the law in a preliminary reading after the vote, but stressed that it should continue to be promoted to a second and third reading. “Delaying the budget approval was the necessary step and I am glad that all the other members of the government recovered in time. This is an important step in calming the winds but this is only the first step in lowering the election threat from the agenda. “.

Minister Yaakov Litzman and MK Moshe Gafni demand an immediate solution to the lack of a yeshivot budget. Netanyahu agreed to promote Hauser’s law only in its early stages, in the shadow of the dispute between his party and blue and white, Granted freedom of vote on the law to defer Hauser’s budget, Agudat Israel members would oppose the proposal, while Degel HaTorah members would abstain.

Hauser’s bill stipulates that the government can approve a state budget within 200 days of the formation of the government, and not 100 days as the law currently stipulates. If the law is not approved in three readings, and the dispute between Netanyahu and Gantz is not resolved, the Knesset will be dissolved on August 25, and Israel will go to the fourth election.
