“We look at the situation every day. Can we organize or not? We assume it is. But everything depends on our VIP event,” says organizer Danny Schets.
“We just need sponsors to finalize the matter financially. Those people want something in return. If there is a ban on our catering, it is simple and there will be no edition of the Gooikse Pijl this year.”
“We have now worked out an arrangement. We have two large rooms where we can accommodate the VIPs. And we will work with two shifts. More than 100 people will never be in the two rooms.”
“If there is a prohibition at that time to sit with so many people to eat, we will end it.”
The course has already been worked out and the list of participants is almost ready.
Schets: “We have a contract with Deceuninck-Quick Step, Lotto Soudal, Israel Start-Up Nation and Team Jumbo-Visma. Those are already four WorldTeams that will start at Gooik.”
“In addition, there are a lot of ProTeams such as Circus-Wanty Gobert, Sport Vlaanderen-Baloise, Alpecin-Fenix, Riwal Readynez and Nippo Delko Provence who have registered.”
“Our course has remained the way it was. You shouldn’t change what is good. We will again do laps on September 20 with start and finish on the Strijlandstraat in Gooik. If things go in the right direction, of course, with the corona virus.”
Last year, the overall victory in the Gooikse Pijl went to Pascal Ackermann. The German took after a mass sprint for the Italian Alberto Dainese and Timothy Dupont.
