2020 is also very remarkable as a game year. Normally it is quite quiet in August, but this summer a nice amount of games will be released. Some highlights include UFC 4, Wasteland 3 and – hopefully – Baldur’s Gate 3. These are the August game releases!

Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition

August 7 – PC

After Death Stranding, Sony is bringing another PS4 game to PC: Horizon Zero Dawn. Guerrilla’s acclaimed open-world game naturally benefits from the additional features of PC hardware, such as support for ultra wide screens, unlimited frame rates and extensive graphics settings. Reflections have also been improved, vegetation is dynamic and a benchmark option is available. It’s about the Complete Edition, so the Frozen Wilds expansion is included in the game.

EA Sports UFC 4

14 augustus – PlayStation 4 en Xbox One

Once in a while EA releases a new UFC game. On August 14, it is time for UFC 4. The information that the publisher brings out shows that the company, like players, was not always satisfied with certain aspects of the game. That is why clinching situations and strangulation and clamping, among other things, have been adjusted to make it feel more natural and less arbitrary. Also, the controls have been completely overhauled to easily give various punches and kicks. Whether UFC 4 actually solves the pain points of the previous game remains to be seen, but MMA enthusiasts have at least another fresh edition to dive into.

Microsoft Flight Simulator

August 18 – PC

Microsoft pulls out all the stops for the return of Microsoft Flight Simulator. Assisted by its own Azure servers and Bing Maps, the entire world is simulated one-to-one on the pavement tile. As if that’s not impressive enough, it also teams up with weather centers to create realistic climates and weather conditions, which of course affect the extent to which players get their boxes safely to the ground. Various tools should guide players through the learning process, ultimately making commercial flights a breeze.

Tell Me Why

27 augustus – Xbox One en pc

Life is Strange studio Dontnod Entertainment is hard at work with all kinds of different titles via different publishers. The first episode of Tell Me Why, a game about the twins Alison and Tyler, will be released on August 27 in collaboration with Bandai Namco. The two have a supernatural connection that allows them to relive childhood memories, while also trying to unravel a mystery in an Alaskan village. Tell Me Why stood out in the media mainly because of the character Tyler, who is transgender. The studio says they have engaged external agencies to handle the subject as empathically as possible, and given Dontnod’s reputation, that seems to be going well.

Project Cars 3

28 augustus – PlayStation 4, Xbox One en pc

The Project Cars franchise is known for quite hardcore racing games, but with the upcoming installment, Slightly Mad Stutios aims to lower the threshold. For example, players can adjust various parameters that affect the level of difficulty, such as the aggression of opponents. On the other hand, Project Cars 3 should also offer a more in-depth simulation, with extensive customization options for cars – which also allows you to continue the career mode with your own car – and a Scheduled Event mode for regular tournaments.

Wasteland 3

28 augustus – PlayStation 4, Xbox One en pc

InXile’s own bar is set quite high after the successor to the classic Wasteland exceeded all expectations. Wasteland 3 comes out relatively quickly after some delay and has a mainly icy setting in Colorado. Players step into the shoes of the only survivor of a team – simply titled Team – who is looking for a new base, trying to build a life among different factions. Furthermore, expect more extensive dialogue options in line with Torment: Tides of Numenera, useful team skills during combat and the option to play the campaign fully cooperatively. August seems to be a good month for tactical RPG enthusiasts.

Wasteland 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 (early access)

August – Stages and PC

The Belgian Larian Studios holds a firm blow for Baldur’s Gate 3. In August, the game will first go into early access, and it may be postponed. Yet just a sequel to one of the most legendary RPGs ever is reason enough to get excited. The gameplay released so far is reminiscent of Larian’s previous masterpiece, Divinity Original Sin 2, featuring intriguing and fully voiced characters, thrilling combat and a sea of possibilities. For example, each class has its own dialogue options and stories and the game is equipped with an impressive customization system. These features seem to be just the tip of the iceberg, so hopefully we can get started with the game this month.
