Tennis player tested positive for coronavirus just before WTA Tour | NOW

At the Palermo WTA tournament, a tennis star was tested positive for the corona virus on Saturday. The player, whose name has not been announced, has withdrawn from the clay tournament in Sicily.

According to the WTA, the tennis player shows no symptoms. As a result of the positive test, the organization in Palermo has tightened up the corona protocol. Any tennis player who tests positive for the coronavirus remains in isolation until a doctor gives permission to play again.

The Palermo tournament is the first on the WTA Tour since the tennis season was halted in March due to the corona crisis. The qualifications in Italy started on Saturday and the main tournament starts on Monday.

In Palermo, three Dutch women participate with Arantxa Rus, Indy de Vroome and Bibiane Schoofs. Russian is the number seventy in the world automatically admitted to the main schedule. De Vroome and Schoofs come out in the qualifications.

Croatian Petra Martic, the global number fifteen, is the highest ranked player in Palermo. The Czech Marketa Vondrousová and the Greek Maria Sakkari, among others, also participate in the tournament.

Last year, Kiki Bertens reached the final in Palermo, in which she lost to the Swiss Jil Teichmann. De Wateringse will not participate in Italy this year.
