Ajax trainer Erik ten Hag was able to greet David Neres on the training field on Saturday, to his great delight. The 23-year-old Brazilian has stopped playing since the Champions League game against Chelsea on November 5, 2019 due to a knee injury.

On Saturday, Neres appeared again on De Toekomst: Ten Hag called this ‘the windfall of the day’. The Brazilian was allowed to stand on the field with countryman Antony, who was, however, succeeded to succeed Neres. “Frankly, we expected David to leave. Responding to that, we got him,” said Ten Hag about Antony, quoted by De Telegraaf. “Fortunately David is still there.”

The performance of Antony also satisfied the Ajax trainer. Ten Hag characterized the newcomer as ‘lively and really present’. “It is clear that he has a lot of potential. Furthermore, we just have to see how that process will go.” Antony is given the time to adapt to life in the Netherlands. “He comes from another continent, comes to a different club in another country, where a different language is spoken. Then we have to see how fast that goes.”
