Steijn is done with it: ‘Maybe start immediately with Eredivisie two weeks later’

NAC Breda coach Maurice Steijn was not happy when he heard that the friendly match against ADO Den Haag on Saturday afternoon could not take place due to a number of corona infections at the club from The Hague. Steijn advocates postponing the start of the Kitchen Champion Division.

Last weekend, the game of NAC against Dordrecht’90 was also canceled. According to Steijn, the entire preparation falls to pieces in this way. “It is very annoying and I am really fed up with it”, he says in conversation with Broadcasting Brabant. “We haven’t been able to play a game for two weeks and the competition is just around the corner. You want to try and see things. That will completely fall apart.”

Steijn is not yet reassured that next season everything will go smoothly in the Dutch professional competitions. “I think there is a lot more going to happen. I have already calculated that this will be a very special season. There only needs to be a real breakout and maybe the competition will be stopped”, said the NAC coach.

Later start
For the time being, the Kitchen Champion Division will start on August 28, but Steijn hopes that the start will be moved to a later date. “But I don’t know if that is possible. Maybe we can start simultaneously with the Eredivisie two weeks later”, the trainer thinks aloud. “Then there is even more insight into the situation and more people have been tested. I don’t know yet whether it should be raised with the KNVB, because it all falls on our roof so raw. It would be nice, because it gives us also a bit more time to attract players. But maybe I’m the only one who would like this. ”
