The cycling monuments seem to be carved in stone for centuries. But isn’t it time for a new member to join that select club? In our YouTube series Sporza Dox, we stand up for the Strade Bianche.
Milan-Sanremo, the Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the Tour of Lombardy are called the 5 monuments in cycling, because they are a step above the other classics in both appearance and age.
But shouldn’t we gradually revise that list? Are there no candidates for the title of 6th monument? We already nominate the Strade Bianche, the course on the white gravel roads in Tuscany that has acquired an almost mythical status in a short time.
In a new episode of Sporza Dox, we explore where the term monument comes from and explain why we believe the Strade Bianche should become the 6th cycling monument.
