Sony’s WH-1000XM3 was praised for its noise canceling and the company is building on that with these new headphones. It is equipped with the HD noise canceling QN1 processor to ensure an even quieter background while listening to music or watching a movie. You also seem to no longer hear the engine of an airplane, partly because the sounds of mid and high frequency are reduced.
Dual Noise Sensor
The Dual Noise Sensor technology ensures that ambient noise entering the microphones is analyzed. The new Bluetooth Audio System on Chip constantly adapts it to your music or other sound that you want to hear. Making phone calls is also possible with these headphones, because there are not only microphones on it to detect ambient noise.
The over-ear headphones take your situation into account. He does this in several ways. On the one hand via the Speak-to-Chat function, with which you can have a conversation without having to take off the headphones. When you speak, WH-1000XM4 recognizes that and automatically stops the music. Ambient noise is also allowed in for a while, so that you also hear the voice of the other person. When the call is ended, the headphones will play music again after 30 seconds. This can also be done faster by touching it: you operate the device via touch. Quick Attention is also present again, so you can temporarily disable noise canceling via the touchpad on the right side. Handy when the Dutch Railways makes an announcement.
There is one more way that Sony’s new device can take your situation into account. For example, there is ‘wearing detection’. This tells the headphones that they are being worn or not. When it knows it has been dropped off, it automatically stops. He also keeps an eye on what moment of use it is and can learn recognize where you often go, so that the sound can be adapted to the situation. You can also set this up via the Sony Headphones Connect app.
Your listening experience improves according to Sony due to the new audio system called Edge-AI. This involves teaching the AI to recognize audio from a large database of audio tracks. With it, it can restore the quality that is lost when audio is digitally compressed. All this is done in real time and can be applied to all music genres. 360 Reality Audio makes the sound seem to come from all directions for a three-dimensional listening experience.
The headphones can be paired with two Bluetooth devices at the same time. If a call comes in, your headphones will recognize it and the connection will be established automatically. Handy if, for example, you listen on your laptop at your desk, but receive a phone call on your smartphone.
WH-1000XM4 includes Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC. It lasts for about 30 hours with noise canceling switched on. After ten minutes of charging you can listen to music for 5 hours. The device appears in black and silver, including carrying case, USB charging cable, airplane adapter and audio cable. It will be available from next week in the Netherlands and Belgium for 380 euros.
