A train that was en route from Amsterdam to Brussels South must be evacuated because smoke had developed in the engine room. According to the fire brigade, there are about 200 to 300 travelers on the train. Nobody was injured.
The incident on the train occurred around 5.30 pm, in the tunnel of the north-south connection, about two hundred meters before Antwerp Central Station. A small fire started in the engine room, resulting in a lot of smoke. The fire was quickly brought under control.
“Fortunately, the passengers were not bothered by the smoke,” says Jasmien O from the Antwerp Fire Brigade Zone. “They were initially taken to the rear of the train, but are now being evacuated.”
No one was injured in the incident. Train traffic has been temporarily halted on all tracks.
