Sailing in the Lachish River officially begins (video)

Against the background of the struggle in Corona and the tightening of restrictions, the Ashdod Tourism Company and the town of Ashdod announced this morning (Sunday) the return of the cruise to the Lachish River after about 50 years, officially.

This morning (Sunday), an official press conference was held on the subject, which presented the sailing in the river. Quite a few people joined the project, including, of course, the Ashdod Municipality and the Tourism Company, together with the Association of Cities for the Environment, in order to return to sailing in the river for the first time since the activity stopped somewhere in the 1960s.

In the first phase, a floating block of floats was built, from which 10 pedal boats (only) will be lowered into the water, which will operate and sail on a route of about 1.5 km – from around Challenges Park to near the estuary to the sea.

In the area designated for sailing, pedal boats will be rented to the public, with all the required safety regulations applying to the users.

The sailing activity will take place within the requirements and conditions of the “purple mark”, and each boat constitutes a “capsule” in itself. The entire route of the voyage will be photographed and supervised throughout the activity and even beyond.

According to the plan, the activity will be managed by “Challenges Park” during the spring-summer-autumn seasons, throughout the week – starting from sunrise and ending about half an hour before sunset.

The waters of the creek are regularly inspected and monitored every few days by professionals, and have been found worthy and approved for boating activities by the Ministry of Health for several years. Throughout the sailing period, the water monitoring will be increased, and every day a “green flag” will be raised for the activity (or alternately – “red flag” if the water quality is not in the standard required for sailing), by performing independent tests by the Association of Cities for the Environment.
