Russia plans to begin vaccinating the country’s general population against Cubid-19 as early as October, becoming the first country in the world to launch a mass vaccine against the virus that has killed more than 679,000 people worldwide.

Russia, which is plaguing the corona plague on its hospitals and the protective measures against it harming its economy, has shortened clinical trial times and accelerated clinical assessments in an attempt to win the global race for vaccine development.

“We are planning a broader vaccination in October,” Health Minister Makhail Murashko told Russian news agencies on Saturday. He said the effort would come after vaccinating health and education system workers, who would be the first to receive the vaccine.

Earlier last week, a Russian official said a vaccine prepared by the Government Retirement Institute for Epidemiology and Microbiology would probably be registered in mid-August. Registration is the most important step before using a vaccine for a medical purpose. These efforts put Russia ahead of Western countries in developing and preparing a vaccine for the general population.

Several vaccine candidates developed in the West are currently undergoing the third clinical trial. Russia’s decision to give up this step on the way to registering its vaccine raises concerns that it has decided to compromise on public health in favor of national prestige.

Dr. Anthony Fuchsie, the United States’ largest specialist in infectious diseases, recently said at a hearing at the Corona Subcommittee on the U.S. House of Representatives that the United States would probably not use vaccines developed in China or Russia.

“I hope the Chinese and Russians really test the vaccine before they give it to anyone,” he said. “The claims that you have a vaccine ready for distribution before you perform the tests are in my opinion problematic at best.”

Pauchi said he hopes the U.S. will have a vaccine by the end of this year.

The vaccine developed by the Retirement Institute is one of two that are undergoing advanced trials in Russia. The World Health Organization did not answer last week whether it had seen data indicating the effectiveness of the Russian vaccine.

Earlier this year, the United States, Britain and Canada accused Russia of hacking into international institutions to steal information about Corona vaccines. Russia has denied the allegations.

Russia recorded the number of second corona cases in the world earlier this year. 845,000 carriers of the epidemic were discovered in it. Only the United States, Brazil and India are ahead of it in the number of cases. The official death toll is very low relative to these countries, over 14,000.
