“It is not an official function,” says Van Persie. “That’s why I find it difficult to give it a name. For example, I don’t see myself as a striker coach. I think it’s a win-win situation: I’m going to find out here if I like this and I help the staff a little with this. ”

Trainer Dick Advocaat would like the 37-year-old Van Persie to join. The two previously worked together at the Turkish Fenerbahçe and the Dutch national team. Van Persie: „I was supposed to join last season, but that was still limited in the end. Dick called me and asked if I wanted to come. And I can’t say no to Dick. ”

Van Persie ended his football career at Feyenoord a year ago. He won the UEFA Cup with the club in 2002 and the KNVB Cup after his return in 2018.

“In the past year I have only done things that I enjoy,” said Van Persie. “I work as an analyst in England, I travel a lot with my family, I do a lot of sports. Now I’m going to see if this is also something I enjoy. ”

Spiers were already hoping for Van Persie

Nicolai Jørgensen and Robert Bozenik, the strikers in the Feyenoord selection, of whom the former played with Van Persie for another year and a half, said earlier that they hoped that the all-time top scorer of the Dutch national team would join the staff of the Rotterdam team.

“I feel more like a player than a trainer,” said Van Persie. “As a player I was already involved in the dialogue and also in this role I want to achieve nice things together, fun exercises. I don’t have one philosophy: more roads lead to Rome. ”

It also became clear on Thursday that Christian Conteh is eligible to play for Dick Advocaat’s club. The 20-year-old attacker has received a residence and work permit. Born in Hamburg, Conteh signed a contract last month that will not expire until the summer of 2024. He came from FC Sankt Pauli, where he made his debut in the first team last year.
