RIVM warns again about poor air quality | Inland

The institute also raised the alarm at the weekend. Smog due to ozone can lead to (an increase in) respiratory complaints, such as coughing and shortness of breath, worsening of asthma symptoms and a decrease in lung function. Irritation to the eyes, nose and throat also occurs.

The RIVM advises people who are sensitive to bad air to stay indoors and to limit heavy physical exertion, especially in the late afternoon and early evening, because the air is then most polluted.

Ozone smog is created by the accumulation of air pollution on sunny days, when there is little wind. Pollutants are converted into ozone under the influence of sunlight.
