Remco Evenepoel will defend his European time trial title on August 24. The top talent of Deceuninck – Quick-Step gets Victor Campenaerts as the second Belgian. Two days later the road race takes place among the elite men. Future team mates Oliver Naesen and Greg Van Avermaet, among others, were selected by national coach Rik Verbrugghe.
“It may not be ideal three days before the start of Tour, but it is an extra chance for a win. With 170 km it is also a good training for the Tour in any case ”, says Van Avermaet, who will be played as the leader alongside Oliver Naesen and Jasper Stuyven.
The full selection:
Victor Campenaerts – Xandro Meurisse – Oliver Naesen – Jasper Philipsen – Jasper Stuyven – Greg Van Avermaet – Sep Vanmarcke – Otto Vergaerde
Reserves: Aimé De Gendt – Stan Dewulf – Edward Theuns – Loïc Vliegen
The women’s road race is scheduled for August 27 in France. The following Belgians will come into action for this: Sanne Cant, Valerie Demey, Lotte Kopecky, Jesse Vandenbulcke, Kelly Van den Steen and Julie Van de Velde.
