Martin Ödegaard will play for Real Madrid next season, various Spanish media report on Tuesday. The Norwegian midfielder made the switch to Real Sociedad last year on a two-year rental basis. Due to his stormy development, the club has now decided through the intercession of Zinedine Zidane to end the rental deal and bring him back to Madrid.
According to AS Zidane has asked the club management to bring Ödegaard back for two reasons: because of his development at Real Sociedad and the uncertainty about the future of a number of midfielders from the Real Madrid squad. Isco, James Rodríguez and Toni Kroos may leave the Santiago Bernabéu. Zidane’s request is against the sore leg of Real Sociedad, which still counts on Ödegaard in the new season.
The Spanish newspaper points to an as yet unfortunate collaboration between Ödegaard and Zidane on the promise team. The 21-year-old midfielder came to Real Madrid in 2015 as a great talent, but a breakthrough was not forthcoming. After rental periods at sc Heerenveen and Vitesse, the clubs queued up last summer. Ajax and Bayer Leverkusen, among others, wanted to recruit him. After the Champions League elimination against Manchester City, Zidane would have doubts about his midfield consisting of Casemiro, Kroos and Luka Modric, giving Ödegaard a chance in the preparation.
Real Madrid had initially given the green light to Ödegaard to stay with Real Sociedad for another season. That was the preference of the talent. However, after talking to Zidane, he is ready to return. The coach has assured him that he is ready for a shot at it the Royal, while Florentino Pérez has given the green light. The chairman has already spoken with Real Sociedad and according to Brand It cannot be ruled out that Real Madrid will send a new mercenary to Sociedad.
