A few weeks ago, speculation began to intensify around Sebastian Vettel. The German will have to leave Ferrari after this season and has been looking for a different seat ever since. Renault, Red Bull and Mercedes indicated that they have no place for the four-time world champion.
Suddenly there was the possibility of Racing Point. Lawrence Stroll’s team completely recreated the Mercedes W10 and now appears to have a car with the RP20 that could potentially come on stage. Since then, rumors have gotten going, along with the fact that Toto Wolff partly owns Aston Martin, which will take over from Racing Point next year.
Wolff would like to work with Vettel but has no place at Mercedes. Negotiations between Vettel and Racing Point have also been running for several weeks, with a deadline of 31 July being discussed. On that day, Vettel could indicate at last that he would like to have Perez’s chair, since the Mexican seems to be the child of the bill.
He became that anyway, it turned out last week, now that he is the first driver to be sidelined with a corona infection. This also throws a spanner in the works of Racing Point, which wanted to announce the contract between Vettel and Aston Martin. Sky Sports journalist Ted Kravitz reports that the news of Perez has caused his corona test Racing Point to wait with Vettel’s announcement.
Meeting Vettel and Stroll
Just before the race at Silverstone, Vettel and Racing Point owner Lawrence Stroll were seen greeting each other. In itself not surprising because it is generally known that both parties are negotiating a contract that will start in 2021.
It is not clear when the agreement will now be announced. This may happen shortly after Perez has tested negative for corona and is therefore able to race.
