Such a bubble also existed at Windsor Castle, where staff had previously spent some time in isolation prior to two weeks of work.

In Scotland, the scheme is tabloid The Sun already led to dissatisfaction because the quarantine takes place on Balmoral itself, where the common areas such as the staff bar are closed due to the pandemic as a precaution. “Without all the normal facilities that make a stay pleasant for the staff, it’s like being in Colditz, the prisoner of war camp,” a staff member told the newspaper.
