Luc Nilis returns to work in Turkey. The living legend of PSV starts Wednesday as an assistant coach at Ankaragücü, which plays in the Süper Lig. Nilis, 53 years old, worked last season as a striker coach at VVV-Venlo, which, however, was unable to renew his contract. The Belgian now becomes the right hand of his good friend Fuat Capa, who was in the Netherlands for the selections of MVV and RBC Roosendaal.
Nilis is one of the best players PSV has ever had in its ranks. The Belgian was on the Eindhoven payroll between 1994 and 2000 and scored 110 goals in 164 official matches. After his active career, he returned to PSV as an individual trainer and scout. In 2018, he said goodbye to PSV’s striker coach with a championship and started working for VVV, where the cooperation was limited to two seasons because VVV also had to keep a close eye on finances due to the corona crisis.

“It was definitely a great time at VVV. Cozy club. If you have always played at the top, it is not always easy to adapt to a team that does not have to win every week. But I learned a lot there. But now the story is ready for me in Venlo. I want to move forward ”, Nilis told earlier Sporza. The Belgian is now returning to Turkey, where he already worked as an assistant trainer at Genclerbirligi and Kasimpasa in 2011. At the latter club he was Capa’s right-hand man.
Ankaragücü finished last season in the Süper Lig, with 32 points from 34 games, but the Turkish Football Association chose not to relegate any club. That also meant good news for Kayserispor and Yeni Malatyaspor. In the top division of Turkey, 21 teams will play next season and at the end of the stage there are not three but four relegators.
