Practice game Willem II is canceled: Tilburg club reports infected player

Willem II’s practice match against IJsselmeervogels is canceled on Saturday afternoon. A test showed that a player in trainer Adrie Koster’s selection is infected with the corona virus.

‘Within the selection of Willem II, a player was tested positive for the corona virus after the second test round. IJsselmeervogels has announced that it does not want to travel to Tilburg as a result, ‘the Eredivisie club said on the club site. The player in question had no symptoms or complaints and immediately went into home quarantine.

‘Selection players, staff members and other employees of Willem II are preventively tested according to protocol’, writes Willem II, which, according to the Algemeen Dagblad, would have simply wanted to take action against IJsselmeer birds. According to the protocol that will soon apply in the competition, football must always be played, unless a club cannot raise a team. Willem II expects the practice matches with VVV-Venlo and PSV to continue as usual.

For Willem II, who will go on a training camp to Oisterwijk on Monday, it is already the second corona case in a short time. For the first training of the Tilburg club, three players had to undergo a retest. Elton Kabangu turned out to be positive and has since been quarantined at home. The club does not disclose who has now been affected for privacy reasons.

Feyenoord also reported a positive corona test in the selection on Saturday.
