Pope Francis has appointed six women and one man as new members of the Pontifical Council for the Economy, KerkNet reported Thursday citing the Vatican press service.

It is the first time that women have a seat on the council. They immediately get a job as the Vatican’s top financial advisor. On the one hand, the council has the power to supervise the management of the finances and real estate of the Holy See and, on the other hand, to provide financial advice, including on tightening the rules for greater financial control.
