In Alaska, seven people died in a collision between two small aircraft in the air on Friday morning. That was reported by the U.S. Department of Civil Security.

The accident happened around 8:30 am local time (6:30 pm Belgian time) near Soldotna, in Kenai’s southern Alaska. “One plane had one occupant, while the other plane had six people on board,” the department reported. “Everyone, except one person, died on the spot, but the initial survivor succumbed to the injuries on the way to the hospital.”

One of the fatalities is 67-year-old Gary Knopp.

The pilot who was on the plane alone was 67-year-old Gary Knopp, an MP from Alaska. Four other victims were in their twenties.

Alaskan governor Mike Dunleavy expressed his condolences to the victims’ next of kin. “I assure them that the investigators will have full cooperation from the state to investigate this tragic event,” he said.
