Padt transfer-free in 2021: ‘I dream of abroad or the top four’

FC Groningen goalkeeper Sergio Padt announced on Saturday evening that he will not leave for FC Emmen. The thirty-year-old Amsterdammer is – in principle – entering his seventh season at FC Groningen, but there is a chance that it will be his last season.

Padt’s commitment will expire in mid-2021. “I have the dream to go abroad again or to a top four club in the Netherlands,” he is quoted by De Telegraaf. “And next year my contract will expire and I will see what happens.”

After the sudden news from Emmen, things have calmed down around Padt. The goalkeeper remains on the ground for the time being when it comes to a possible transfer. “If something else comes, then that party will have to talk to the club and I will have to be open to it myself.” It seems as yet that he will at least finish the 2020/2021 season at FC Groningen, which Arjen Robben brought back earlier this summer. “That counts. Although my own future and that of my family remain the most important.”

Padt played in the first exhibition match of FC Groningen on Saturday evening. The Danny Buijs team won 1-0 against Heracles Almelo.
