Max Verstappen finished third fastest on Saturday in the final practice before the Grand Prix of Great Britain. The Red Bull Racing driver only had to leave the Mercedes duo Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton.
Bottas recorded the fastest time of the weekend with 1.25.873. Shortly behind him, his teammate Hamilton finished second. Verstappen conceded exactly 0.3 seconds to Bottas.
Before training at Silverstone, Verstappen expected that the gap with Mercedes would be about half a second. On Friday, the Limburger was already satisfied with the progress the team had made with the car.
Verstappen’s teammate Alexander Albon only played in the last ten minutes and managed to score the thirteenth time. The Thai ended up with his car against the crash barrier on Friday.
Low temperatures in qualifying and racing
It was only the first time that Mercedes topped the time table this weekend. Friday, Verstappen and Racing Point driver Lance Stroll drove the fastest laps in the first two practice sessions.
At about 36 degrees it was much warmer than on Saturday. Mercedes cars seem to show up less well in the heat. However, the rest of the weekend will remain chilly at Silverstone.
The qualifying starts on Saturday at 3 p.m. and the race starts on Sunday at 3.10 p.m.
